My wedding day back in June was perfect. On August 19, we had a reception in Pennsylvania, and it was even better. What is better than perfect? I don’t know, but that’s how I felt on my “second” wedding day!
I wanted to share with you some pictures from the day. We baked three flavors of cupcakes instead of doing a traditional wedding cake, and our favor was a take-home cookie bar with 11 different kinds of cookies! All the recipes are below.

So without further ado… my wedding day…
We started by getting ready at my aunt’s house. She owns a salon where I have been getting my hair cut since I was a little girl. I gave her a tall order for the day: vintage hair! She did an AMAZING job! I loves my own hair, and she also did an awesome job with Jessica’s hair. It was simpler, but 100% “her” if that makes sense. And of course our mom looked beautiful as always.
We then took pictures at my grandparent’s house and by the river. My grandmother made us a beautiful quilt as a wedding gift!
We also took some photos at a local garden before heading to the reception.
I made my own bouquet! It is made from purple paper flowers and realistic-looking red and purple faux flowers. For my flowers, I wanted something that would last forever… or at least a very long time. Both Jeffrey and I believe that cut flowers are a bit of the waste, both financially and environmentally, since they die pretty quickly.
So, we made all of our bouquets out of paper flowers!
My mom is a flower-making MACHINE! She made hundreds of the purple flowers. Jess helped too of course, and I made most of the red flowers, with Jess’ help. Jess and I also made the mason jar “wine glasses” using the jars, a candlestick, and glue made for glass.
Now that the wedding is over, I will be selling some of the loose flowers we have left over, so you can get your hands on a few if you want! But back to the wedding. My uncle works at a dealership and has access to some very nice cars. His boss is awesome and allowed him to borrow one for our wedding. We originally were going to arrive in a vintage Dodge Dart convertible, but unfortunately their was a slight chance of rain. The dart has a manual crank top, which means that if there was a little shower, we’d be at the side of the road cranking the top up! So, we came in a sweet cherry-red charger.
Note the heart-shaped, polka-dotted sunnies. I have a growing collection of heart-shaped sunglasses, and the polka-dot red pair were perfect for the day.
The reception was at an old train station that has been converted into a restaurant and banquet hall. They used two old 1930s train cars to create the banquet hall, which fit our vintage theme perfectly.
And oh yeah… those cupcakes I mentioned…
We had three flavors: Red Velvet Cupcakes with White Chocolate Buttercream, Lemon Cupcakes with Vanilla Frosting, and Applesauce Spice Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting. I posted the red velvet recipe earlier this week and will post the lemon and applesauce spice soon! All three were a big hit.
I got the cupcake stand at Walmart of all place (and it was a steal at just $20!). If you are looking for one, I found it in the cake decorating aisle, not with the other kitchen stuff. It even has a lid for easy transportation. The two silver trays were originally $79 each from Pottery Barn, but I got them at a closeout sale for just $12 each. SCORE! Jess made the cute little signs with the flowers. You can see the vintage train car in the background.
And then… there was the main event… the show-stopper… the cookie bar!
We had 11 different flavors. Most of the recipes are already on this blog, but those that are not will be coming soon!

We provided boxes so that people could take home as many cookies as they wanted. At the end of the night, there were maybe 1-2 dozen left out of… easily 25+ dozen, probably more like 30-40 dozen!
We also had a vintage-themed photo booth in one of the old train cars, which served as our guestbook. Everyone had so much fun posing for funny pictures. We just picked up a few vintage and vintage-inspired hats from the thrift store, along with some feather boas, purple beads, and of course lots of fun heart-shaped sunnies.
When you walked in the door, we had a place for cards (actually, it was made from my grandma’s vintage hair dryer case), as well as a table set up with pictures of our parents/grandparents from their wedding days and a little display of family members who are no longer with us.
Oh, and we also had a table with board/card games for people who didn’t feel like dancing, which was a big hit too.
It was seriously the perfect night. Jess and Jeffrey’s brother, Justin, gave great maid of honor and best man toasts, we did some dancing and played some games, I got to see and chat with people I haven’t seen for years, and there were lots of yummy drinks to go around!
And, of course, I spent the night celebrating with the love of my life and my best friend.
