I’m definitely on a blueberry kick. Last month, we posted a Berry Beer Cooler recipe for Secret Recipe Club, and today I’ve got a yummy blueberry smoothie recipe.
I love pairing blueberries with honey for smoothies, not only because the flavors really shine through, but also because it’s a much healthier option. I love the smoothies at Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Orange Julius, but they have more sugar in a single sip than you should have all day. Make ’em at home and you’ll get the same great flavors without any added sugar.
These are just perfect on a hot summer day. I love making one to take down to the beach. You could top it off with a little blueberry vodka if you wanted to be a little naughty. But seriously, these are so good that they don’t even need any alcohol to be downright delicious.
My favorite option for a “base” liquid is fresh-squeezed orange juice, so that’s what I used in this smoothie. However, you could use just about any kind or fruit juice or even iced tea.
I used vanilla yogurt for this recipe because that’s what I had in the house. But you could also use plain yogurt, blueberry yogurt, or even a banana in place of the yogurt in order to create the smooth texture that gives smoothies their name.
You could also add greens, like spinach or kale, to pack more nutrients in every sip. I’ve been making this green smoothie recipe a lot lately, but greens would be great in this blueberry recipe as well.
