Grilled Peach, Berry, and Citrus Sangria

It’s #CookoutWeek right now, and I knew that this year I wanted to feature a refreshing adult beverage: Sangria! There is no wrong time of the year to drink sangria. In the fall, I want light red wine with lots of apples. In the winter, I want a darker red with hints of cinnamon. In the spring? Think floral notes, and strawberries as they start to get ripe.

But my favorite sangria-drinking season is summer. There is an endless amount of fresh, in-season fruit at the grocery store and farmer’s market… mangos, blackberries, peaches, nectarines, blueberries, watermelon, raspberries, cherries…

I love summer sangria that has a healthy dose of citrus flavor. This recipe uses both lemon and lime juice. If you are feeling particularly lazy (I won’t blame you… summertime is meant for relaxing), you can omit the lemon/lime juice, sugar, and water from the recipe below and instead use 5-6 cups of store-bough lemonade or limeade.

The French Farm Orange Blossom Flavour Syrup

To add even more citrus-y flavor, I usually add triple sec or orange-flavored liquor to my sangria. For this sangria, I used a fun new product sent to me by #CookoutWeek sponsor The French Farm. It’s called Quai Sud Orange Blossom Flowers Syrup, and it is delicious! It added a yummy sweet, orange flavor. You can also drizzle this syrup over the peaches before you grill them, and it works great drizzled on pancakes, chocolate cake, waffles, ice cream, and other desserts.

Oh yeah… did you catch that? I GRILLED the peaches. Which means that I technically grilled a drink. #CookoutWeek makes me creative!

Grilling your peaches will soften them and bring out the sweetness, plus add a bit of the charred flavor that is so reminiscent of summer.

I love the combination of peaches and blueberries in this drink, but use what looks good. If the blueberries are looking a little “meh,” any kind of berry would work well. Also, although you can use any pink moscato, I recommend a sweeter wine. You don’t need to break the bank, because you’re going to mix in lemonade and fruit to enhance the flavor. Flip Flop is a good option that most grocery/liquor stores carry, and it is typically less than $8, but my ultimate favorite is Gumdrop. I discovered this wine a few months ago at Food Lion, but haven’t seen it in other grocery stores yet. It has notes of orange, peach, and cherry, so it is perfect for this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle sweet pink moscato wine (such as Flip Flop or Gumdrop)
  • 1/2 cup orange blossom syrup or triple sec
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup lime juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 5 cups water
  • 3 peaches
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
