Honey Crusted Pork Chops with Honey Soy Sauce

I blame my love of pork on my German heritage. Pork chops are definitely a family favorite.

Recently, I was tasked with creating a recipe using Honey Bunches of Oats. Now, you might at first think that a sweet breakfast cereal would make a perfect addition to desserts, but of course I just had to be different! I’ve used honey when cooking with pork in the past, so I thought, why not give it a try?

And I’m so glad I did…because these pork chops are da bomb.

People still say da bomb right? No? Just me? Anyone else think that the 1990s were only 5-10 years ago?

The Honey Bunches of Oats create a super-easy slightly-sweet breading for these beautiful babies. Drizzle on some warm honey soy sauce and watch your family swoon.

If pork chops aren’t your thing (gasp!), you could use this same recipe with chicken breasts or tenders. If you use breasts, just make sure they are butterflied or pounded thin so the chicken cooks all the way through before the breading burns.

I had to go out and buy another box to develop this recipe. And then another box for him to snack on, so he would stop pouting when I told him my box was off limits!

Friendly tip: make extra honey soy sauce and keep it in your fridge to use in place of BBQ sauce over the next two weeks. And an extra box of Honey Bunches of Oats to snack on. You can thank me later!

Honey Crusted Pork Chops with Honey Soy Sauce

Yield: 4 chops

Honey Crusted Pork Chops with Honey Soy Sauce

Honey Bunches of Oats cereal creates a sweet crust on these tender pork chops.

Ingredients

  • 4 pork chops
  • 2 cups Honey Bunches of Oats
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 3 Tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 3 Tablespoons water
  • 1 Tablespoon cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Crush the Honey Bunches of Oats in a blender or food processor, or using a bag and rolling pin, to create a "flour". Place on a plate.
  2. Heat the oil in a pan over medium heat.
  3. Sprinkle the pork chops with salt and pepper. Dip each pork chop into the egg, then into the flour, making sure there is a nice crust on each side.
  4. Add each pork chop to the pan and fry on each side until pork chop is cooked through and breading is crispy. Turn the chop throughout the cooking process so the crust doesn't burn.
  5. While the pork chop is cooking, add the honey, soy sauce, and garlic to a small saucepan and cook over medium-high heat, whisking to combine.
  6. Heat the mixture until just boiling, then remove from heat.
  7. Whisk together the water and cornstarch until smooth, then add to the sauce and whisk to thicken. If you like a thicker sauce, you can repeat this process with another 3 Tablespoons of water and 1 Tablespoon of cornstarch.
  8. Serve sauce warm over pork chops.
