Skinny Mocha Frappuccino Frozen Coffee

My boyfriend and I are trying to give up Starbucks.

I used to be the girl who would laugh at the people who stood in line every morning for their morning crack. Then, suddenly, I became one of them. I started spending more and more time in cafes, just to get out of the house (working from home can be monotonous!), and I frequently find myself at Starbucks.

It is also too easy for Jeffrey to swing by on this way to class. He practically walks right by the Starbucks on his college’s campus.

I thought #Choctoberfest would be the perfect opportunity to give up Starbucks (or at least cut back) and instead make some skinny versions of their drinks at home… starting with Mocha Frappuccinos, because we both love them!

My skinny copycat version uses skim milk (you can substitute soy or almond milk), dark chocolate, and just the slightest hint of sweetness. No, you probably shouldn’t have one of these every day… but at least they are a lot healthier for you than the off-the-menu counterpart.

Mocha Frappuccino

For this recipe, I used Divine Chocolate‘s cocoa and 70% Intensely Rich dark chocolate. They’re one of our sponsors for #Choctoberfest, and though I’m trying not to play favorites, I have to admit… I absolutely love Divine Chocolate. I’ve had a food blogger crush on Divine for several months, ever since Jeffrey and I first found their chocolates at a local shop.

Skinny Mocha Frappuccino

Skinny Mocha Frozen Coffee #Choctoberfest

Total Time: 15 minutes

This skinny version with satisfy your chocolate cravings without giving your a sugar rush.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup skim milk, almond milk, or soy milk
  • 1 cup coffee (cold)
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa (I used Divine Chocolate cocoa)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2-3 cups ice
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated dark chocolate
  • 1-3 tablespoons sweetener (optional, to taste - you can use honey, sugar, or a sugar substitute)
  • 1-2 teaspoon chocolate syrup (options)

Instructions

  1. Blend the milk, coffee, cocoa, and vanilla until smooth.
  2. Add your choice of sweetener (optional).
  3. Add 2-3 cups of ice to the blender and blend on highest setting until ice is broken up and drink is frothy.
  4. Drizzle chocolate syrup down the side of each glass (if desired) and fill with blended drink.
  5. Sprinkle grated chocolate on top of each glass.
